Beech Class ( Year 3) enjoyed a wonderful trip to Lincoln yesterday where we visited three completely different places of worship. First we spent time at Lincoln Central Mosque, where we met an imam who showed us the prayer room and talked to us about being a Muslim. Then we met Reverend Rachel and Victoria at St John the Baptist church, Ermine. This church was built in the 1960s and is hexagonal shaped. It’s roof is made from concrete, covered in aluminium and is shaped like a Pringle crisp. The correct mathematical name for this shape is a hyperbolic paraboloid. The east wall features an enormous stained-glass window which is an abstract design. The children created their own stained-glass window designs using coloured tissue paper, black card strips and a laminator. Our last visit was to Lincoln cathedral where a very kind employee helped us find the Lincoln Imp. The children amazed by the sheer size of the cathedral - at 83 metres tall.
The children were exceptionally well behaved and their behaviour was commented on all day - “ your class are great listeners, they are all very well- behaved”, “it’s lovely to have such calm and curious children here” and from a member of the public in the cathedral “ these children are a credit to your school.” Well done children for demonstrating our school values. With thanks to all of our hosts and The Johnson and Mukherjee Charitable Trust for giving us a grant to fund the cost of our coach for our trip.
